fjordicswagger | 74 Godiva Street, AKA Tamsin and Death's Home Of More Alcohol Than Last Year, Saturday Evening

Okay, this party had been born out of actual need (for alcohol and getting laid) last year; this year, those factors weren't as urgent for Tamsin, who figured she could always drop in on Jessica or Mike if the night was a spectacular failure.

But hell, it'd been fun last time. Why the hell not?

There were black sheets hanging in front of the windows again, and pillows and sheets scattered all over the floor to make for little makeshift sitting spaces and nooks. There was an empty bottle (in case someone decided to play Spin the Bottle) sitting somewhere in the middle of the room, and in a fit of generosity Tamsin had thoughtfully supplied a bunch of bags of chips in case people wanted to eat stuff.

The glitter clinging to the sheets and the walls and whatnot: not her fault. Who'd ever heard of impromptu localized glitter storms before? At least the winds had died down well before the party actually started, but there was no way in hell she was vacuuming all that stuff up.

There. Party time.

Didi wasn't much of a chef, but she managed a plate of slice-and-bake cookies. That counted as more sophisticated than Doritos, right? (Nobody tell her if it didn't.)

She hovered by the food most of the evening, vainly trying to keep glitter away from anything edible.

"Glitter duty?" Jessica checked. "You're fighting the good fight."

"You have to have goals," Didi laughed. "Hey, Jessica. Thanks for coming."

"I wouldn't miss it. At least partially because if I did I might explode," Jessica admitted. "This week has been brutal." Brutally sexy. That's a weird combination of words. Stupid pollen.

"Do anything you regret yet?" Didi asked sympathetically. "I haven't, but ... well, I don't get out a lot."

And also being Endless meant sex pollen didn't affect her quite as much as everybody else, but that detail seemed a tiny bit heavy for this early in the conversation.

"Then it's convenient that potential bad decisions have come to you," Jessica said. "I played the troopers in a game of strip poker and cheated. It's not the only thing I've done, but it's the only thing I've regretted."

Didi had to think about that one for a second. "Wait, did you cheat to win, or cheat to lose?" she asked. "I can see pros and cons either way."

Jessica considered that. "I cheated to win. But if I was into guys, I probably would have played fair to see what happened."

"I'm betting on orgy," Didi suggested. "But maybe not in the Trooper's station."

"After getting to know them, I'm not positive about that," Jessica said. Mainly because she was pretty sure the clone thing might make things confusing and ruin the mood. "But what do I know? A week ago, I wouldn't have guessed that I'd be at a party like this. Fandom's full of sudden surprises."

"It is that," Didi said, gesturing to the glitter in the corners. "For example, do you think Tamsin and I chose the decor? We had a freaking glitter squall while she was getting ready."

"I was telling Tamsin that you guys are lucky I didn't decorate the place," Jessica said. "I'm a former Student Council President. Years later, I still have the urge to throw glitter absolutely everywhere. This could have been way worse. Everyone would be covered in sparkles." Which would be pretty hot, you had to admit.

Didi groaned. "So you're one of the ones who used to torture us," she joked lightly. "... though I have to admit, seeing everybody in this crowd covered in sparkles wouldn't be all bad."

"Multiple universes?" Didi guessed, with only the slightest raise of her eyebrows. "Probably. I went to school here for a while, too."

"I know them well," Didi told him easily. "I haven't had any doubles, but I did have a sister who wasn't my sister for a while. And allegedly one of my brothers was here for a while, too."

"I'm sure they're missing out," Didi agreed sardonically. "What kind of team are you on?"

"Oh!" Didi said, also as if that had been totally normal. "Justice League brand or X-Men brand?"

This was how she told the difference, you see.

"Avengers, actually," he said, perking up a little. "Never heard of any Justice League, but the X-Men do exist where I'm from."

"Justice League is the one that exists where I'm from," Didi explained. "It's ... the same but different. Bunch of good guys hang out and keep the bad guys from ending the world. Avengers is a less dorky name, though."
