Tamsin's House of Sharp Things And Presently Not Enough Alcohol, Thursday Evening

For a couple of minutes, Tamsin had contemplated the idea of just opening up Town Hall for the party, but... what would be the point in that? People were fired up on hormones, people wanted to get laid, you needed a space small enough to get 'em close together. So to speak.

Also, this way she got free booze out of the deal, so-- win win.

She'd hung the black sheets back in front of the large store windows (partly to keep the light out, partly so it was slightly less obvious the house was technically a shop she was technically maybe squatting in). She'd tossed a ton of pillows and an old mattress on the floor, since she didn't actually have a sofa, per sé. The rooms upstairs were... well, okay, they were rooms.

And there was a table for incoming booze. With solo cups. Of course.

Perfect. Time for a party. If anyone had seen the posters...

[[ ocd incoming... up! adults only party is a go! eta: i should probably note browse responsibly, since there might be hints of nsfw in the comments at some point, i have no idea how this post will roll ]]

Jones had only brought one bottle of booze to the party. Not because she planned on drinking but since the flyer had instructed to bring one for the host.

She also might have mistaken this as a means to discover why the students were amorous than usual.

Maybe it was all the pollen going on with the island but Tamsin's comment actually caused Jones to have a physical reaction.

She actually raised one eyebrow.

"I do not drink," Jones informed her as she offered the bottle to Tamsin. "So you may feel free to use this for your 'stash' as noted on your flyer. It's a bottle of whiskey one of my former students gave me that I have no use for."

"I'm not subject to poison," Jones said still with the raised eyebrow. "Nor pharmaceuticals have any attraction for me. This party seems to be quite the attraction for illicit activities."

"I do not have any emotions," Jones replied flatly. "I'm just merely noting my observations. Are you not in some position of authority on the island?"

"I wouldn't expect you to," Jones noted. "Though I wouldn't expect the mayor also to throw a party to get free alcoholic beverages either."

Could Jones be stirring the pot? Trying to get a reaction out of Tamsin?

Maybe.

"D'you teach?" Irene asked, socially-lubricated enough to just wander up to people, now. "I feel like I've seen you at faculty thingies. I'm Irene."

"Indeed," Jones replied as she straightened her posture slightly. "I'm Jones and I teach the independent study class. I assume by your accent you are from the Britain? I recently left a teaching position there."

Re: Arrive/Mingle

[identity profile] begmetwice.livejournal.com 2015-02-19 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am from the Britain," Irene agreed, unable not to laugh a little at that. "London, actually. I hope the crown treated you well enough while you were in my homeland, and you're not here under duress or fleeing something."

Re: Arrive/Mingle

[identity profile] wandering-stone.livejournal.com 2015-02-19 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"The crown has no knowledge of my existence for the most part," Jones said with a shrug. "And my former place of employment no longer needed my input so I opted to come here of my own accord. And you Irene? What brought you to this rather unusual island?"

"Oh, a love of travel," Irene lied breezily. "What do your kids do in the Independent Study thing? I've got a fashion class this term, but last term I taught sex ed -- and I can only imagine if this had happened then."

Re: Arrive/Mingle

[identity profile] wandering-stone.livejournal.com 2015-02-19 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I expect your class would have been a rather popular place," Jones replied. "Currently my students are free to research their own topic of interest. At the end of the semester they will be presenting their research to other students and faculty at an assembly. Why elements of fashion are you teaching? Is it one where they make their own fashion or merely study it?"

"Ohhhh, that'll be fun," Irene said, because she did so love an assembly. And she didn't even know about Sparkle's project! "I'm mostly teaching them how to put together outfits without feeling, you know, stuffy. How to build a style of their own."

Jones nodded. "Over the years of my existence I've come to enjoy the various styles humanity has come up with. I've particularly enjoyed the woman's business suit over some of the more restrictive clothing from previous eras," she said as she adjusted her suit jacket slightly. "Though the Victorian era did have some interesting fashion."

Eliot nodded to her, trying to work out what it was about Jones that seemed . . . off.

And, you know, ogling a little. That was hard to avoid, this week.

Perhaps it was because she was standing stiffly with perfect posture, her hands behind her back as she observed the social interactions in the room.

She nodded back at Eliot to acknowledge his non-verbal greeting. She didn't smile though. That usually made people uncomfortable.

That, and the fact that said perfect posture wasn't fitting with any of the various training programs, militaries, or crime fighting organizations he knew of.

"I'm Eliot," he said. "You're teaching up at the school too, right?"

Well she had a very distinctive posture.

"Jones," she replied with another nod of acknowledgement. "Yes. I teach the independent study course. You teach there as well as run the local restaurant in town, correct?"

Someone pays attention to the radio.

Listening to the radio was just good policy.

"Luke's, yeah. Though a buddy of mine just showed up and might try to yank it out from under me."

That wasn't fair. Hardison had no interest in running Luke's. He just wanted to completely revamp it into a brew pub.

Hopefully Hardison's beer making skills have improved.

"If you own the restaurant that shouldn't be an issue I'd expect," Jones replied as she continued to review the room. "What do you teach at the school?"

It had! Marginally. Mostly because he'd decided 'Thief Juice' would work better as a hard liquor.

"He bought the whole building." Eliot shook his head. "Guy has more money than he has any idea what to do with. We're lucky he didn't buy out the whole town." Of course, Eliot could probably just buy the thing back from him -- he wasn't exactly broke, himself -- but then Hardison would get cranky. "We do Creative Problem Solving. So far, mostly locked room kinds of scenarios, seein' how the kids deal with gettin' out."

"You're low on drinks," Pam said, holding out a bottle of absinthe. "You can have some of mine. I'm super nice like that. Plus: I'm a great lay."

Helped to get all that useful info out right at the beginning.
