"That's me, all right," Éponine said, nodding. Then, with a burst of surprised laughter, "D'you mean to say you know who I am?"

She was probably never going to get used to the idea of not being insignificant or overlooked.


"Well, you're the mayor, suppose it's your job to know these things. You're not like any mayors I've seen before. I'm accustomed to grumpy old men, and you're much prettier than they are."
